We’re all looking for the ultimate substrate... a substrate that gives your plants the boost they need, retains water perfectly, forms an excellent air buffer, and is sufficiently stable. In a perfect world, it would also consist of eco-friendly, renewable, biobased materials, be 100% clean, perfect for export, food-safe, leave no waste and have a small carbon footprint. But as we all know, nothing’s perfect… or is it?

We think we've found the ultimate recipe for a promising growth medium, composed of the fibres of biodegradable and biobased material. The capillary effect of this fibre is remarkably good, and it easily releases water and nutrients when the plant requires them. The result? Happy plant roots and a healthy crop.

How amazing would it be if you could produce this fibre yourself? We would ship the semi-finished product, and provide you with the automation to produce Nygaia on location. That would give you complete control over its form and the density of the fibres. Maximum control, in other words. Moreover, overproduction would no longer exist and transportation would be a lot less needed. What an impact that would have! We’re working hard on making this dream a reality…


We want to produce a substrate that’s as sustainable as possible, yet perfectly suited to the requirements associated with intensive, high-tech horticulture. Nygaia is biodegradable (compostable) and biobased, which means zero waste. And our ultimate dream is to produce Nygaia more locally.


Check the variables: Nygaia is completely clean and inert, so you decide what goes into your system and what stays out of it; no issues with residues or loose particles. This makes Nygaia ideal for sustainable, high-tech crops such as hydroponics, vertical farming and closed environment agriculture (CEA). However, Nygaia also performs remarkably well in more traditional cultivation systems.



Our dream? To supply a semi-finished product and the machinery for decentral production, so that both you and we can easily scale up.


Nygaia’s structure is stable, so no loose particles end up in the system and your crop remains free of microplastics, toxic residues and pathogens. The best growing conditions can only have one result; a strong and healthy crop.
